What is Farmshelf?

Farmshelf brings the farm home. Our newest Farmshelf unit is one Farmshelf three ways (home, business, education). Farmshelf makes it easy to grow produce where you live, work and eat. Our bookcase-sized farms are small enough to fit into your space and powerful enough to provide pounds of fresh produce every week. Yum!

What is the size of Farmshelf?

The newest Farmshelf is 40.25”w x 21.5”d x 74.75”h which is smaller than the current size available to businesses.

What crops can I grow?

Farmshelf will offer a variety of leafy greens, herbs, edible flowers, and more. See what we’re offering now in our Crop Guide.

How long does it take the plants to grow?

Farmshelf takes you from seed to full plant maturity in four weeks. Most crops will continue to regrow weekly after each harvest.

How do I start growing?

There will be a monthly subscription of $89 which includes unlimited seed pods, nutrients, and Farmcloud remote monitoring.

How much produce can I grow?

It will vary by crop, but you can expect 8 bunches of greens, 8 heads of lettuce, and 8 bundles of herbs per week.

What if I don’t have a green thumb?

No problem! There's an app for that. Our Farmshelf app guides you through the crop cycle and caring plan for all your plants. Farmshelf is designed to be easy for anyone to grow their own nutritious food. You simply add water (don’t worry, we tell you when and how much), insert your seed pods, and then harvest when the crops are mature. We take care of the rest through advanced monitoring of pH, nutrients, temperature, and more.

Will it work anywhere?

Yes, all you need is a standard wall outlet, Wi-Fi network, and a controlled temperature room. The Farmshelf comes with lighting built-in, so proximity to a window is not necessary.

What are nutrients and what are they made of?

To put it simply, nutrients are plant food! The nutrients we use for Farmshelf are created from natural elements–providing the plants with the same nutrition that organic fertilizers would and the same spectrum of nutrients you’d find in natural soil. They come in a liquid form as part of your subscription and are ready to use.

What are the effects on the environment?

Farmshelf turns food miles into food feet by eliminating long shipping distances. The system uses 90% less water than traditional farming. There is no clamshell packaging. By harvesting only what you need, there should be very little food waste (now that's delicious).

Is Farmshelf sustainable?

Farmshelf reduces food waste and plastic packaging; you are growing and harvesting just what you need and using the produce where you are. Plus, while most fresh food is shipped across the country (in the US food travels an average of 1,500 miles), Farmshelf reduces the distance traveled from miles to feet. Farmshelf is a closed-loop hydroponic system that uses 90% less water than conventional farming. Each unit plugs into a standard wall outlet and uses custom, efficient LED lights.

Where is Farmshelf available?
